If you drive with mounted carrier with additional lighting but without load (e.g. at the vacation resort), the lights have to burn anyway according to StVO.
.That means you would always have to disconnect the plug connection to open the tailgate and then reconnect it.
This is where the lamp cover comes in handy and greatly simplifies the handling of the tailgate.
